  • New Sensations

Hi. I'm looking for reassurance. I am 7 and 1/2 months post op. I feel I had a fairly easy recovery. I always said I had mostly stiffness but no real pain. At 6 months post op I traveled to England for 2 weeks and was fine. I then had my checkup with doctor (6 1/2 months) and everything was fine. But the last couple of weeks I have been having different sensations, almost stinging at times around my hardware, mostly in the upper thoracic area. I have heard others talk about sensations like bee stings or ant bites, but I didn't expect to get new pains at this stage and especially after such an uneventful recovery thus far. I just want reassurance that it doesn't mean something is wrong. I have been good about folowing my restrictions: no bending, twisting or lifting more than 10 #. The one thing I have been doing more of is going down on my knees to reach things - but I keep my back straight going down and up again. Now I find I can't wait for my one year check up to make sure everythings ok!

We had surgery on the same day I believe. I get weird pains in my hip area that I never had before and it has just started in the last 3 months. It almost feels like an electric shock, but not quite. I can't really describe it but it seems to be almost deep muscle and I haven't figured out what brings it on or how to relieve it. It just kind of shows up out of the blue and goes away in a few minutes. I think it might be from the screws in my ilium holding the hardware to my sacral area but really I have no clue. My Doctor said everything was good about a month ago and had no explanation. I assume I will just have to figure out how ot deal with it.

      Hi Jan,

I had weird sensations galore for at least 9 months post-op: electrical-feeling shocks and zings, pulls, clenching/unclenching (spasms, I suppose), hot/cold, you name it. It all settled down in time. Still, like you, I was nervous until I had my one-year checkup and was reassured that all the hardware was still intact.
