  • Stomach Problems

    Hi,

My son Casey has a curve of 54T and 56 L. He is scheduled to have surgery at Shriners in July. He has been experiencing stomach problems for about a year (pain, loss of appetite and diarrhea). We have an appointment with a GI specialist next week, but I was wondering if anyone else has had problems. I have read that scoliosis can cause digestive problems.

    Thanks so much,

    Kimg

I have had digestive problems for the last couple of years. I did just find out that I have a hiatal hernia so that is contributing to some of my problems. My doctor did not act like he thought my stomach problems had anything to do with my scoliosis. I have had surgery now and I am still having bad stomach aches and other issues so I am sure it is a seperate issue now. I have another appointment with my doctor. I think it is a good idea that you see someone that specialized in that area. It does seem logical that maybe a curved spine can mess with your digestive system, and it probably does to some point. I just don't know if mine is the case since I have had my spine fixed and am still having these problems. Good luck to you and I hope you find the answer.

      Maybe gallbladder?

I had lots of these problems you describe and an enflamed gallbladder was found and removed during the spinal surgery. I feel so much better. Good luck to your son; maybe it will be something as simple as that!
