  • hi everyone - new here

    Hi everyone,

I was so happy to find this forum a couple of weeks ago. I am now able to post and am so excited about it. Everyone seems so open and honest about sharing their experiences. What a comfort to be able to share with people who have gone through or are going through the same thing you are!

I'm a 57 yr. old female with scoliosis that was diagnosed at 8 yrs. old. I've really had no treatment other than going to a chiropractor for yrs. That helped for a long time, but about 4 yrs. ago it became too painful to be adjusted.

I'm now considering surgery. I have 2 - 50 degree curves and a 90 degree twisting in my spine. It's really started to affect what I'm able to do and I'm very worried about progression.

I was wondering if anyone has heard of Dr. Scott Rushton, Md. out of Pennsylvania Hospital in Phila. He's with the group Booth, Bartolozzi and Balderston. I was referred to Dr. Balderston, but he's no longer doing this surgery and referred me to Dr. Rushton in his group. I met with him once and liked him alot. He did suggest surgery, but first sent me for an MRI. I'll see him again this Thurs. I will definitely get a 2nd opinion once I find out exactly what he wants to do. Also, does anyone know of any other Drs. in the Phila. area they could recommend?

It's so scary thinking of finally doing this, but also very exciting. Thanks for any imput.

    Hi Connie,

Welcome to the forum. I've heard good things about Dr. Rushton. I'm currently seeing Dr. Fras at Mainline Health in Broomall. He will be doing my surgery in May. I can't say enough good things about him. He cares A LOT about his patients. He is extremely nice and easy to talk to. I saw Dr. Albert for a second opinion 2 weeks ago. He was nice too, but didn't seem as concerned as Dr. Fras. My aunt had surgery done by Dr. Albert 5 years ago and thought he did a fantastic job.

Best of luck with your decision!

Hi, glad you found us. I'm seeing Dr. David Anderson at the Rothman Institute(part of Thomas Jefferson U). I really like him, I was scheduled for surgery in Feb but that is being rescheduled due to insurance reasons. We are now aiming for April. I had seen Dr. David Clements years ago when he was with Temple, he is now with Cooper over in NJ.(I think he's head of orthopaedics) I personally didn't care for him. My last spine specialist had recommended Dr. Fras who Briarrose is seeing but I wasn't able to use him. Best of luck with your search.

Thank you both for responding! Is Dr. Fras' name Christian? If so he's in my insurance network and I think I'll try to get an opinion from him. David Anderson was also a Dr. I was thinking about. He's also within our plan. I will check both out. It's a hugh decision and the right Dr. means everything!

The best of luck to both of you in your upcoming surgeries!
