I JUST FINALLY HAD MY APPOINTMENT I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR SINCE FEB. THE DOCTOR IS A WELL KNOWN SCOLIOSIS SURGEON, SO I WAS NERVOUS OF COURSE OF HIM SAYING THE WORD FUSION. I AM 44 YEARS OLD WORE THE BRACES AS A TEENAGER AND STARTED DEVELOPING PAIN ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO. WELL TODAY I FOUND OUT I HAVE A 60 DEGREE CURVE WITH ARTHRITIS IN MY LOWER SPINE AND I HAVE THE OPTION OF SURGERY NOW OR TRY MORE PT AND DIFFERENT PAIN KILLERS AND CHECK BACK IN A YEAR. THEN IF IT PROGRESSED AT ALL SURGERY HE SAID WOULD BE THE SOLUTION. I ALSO HAVE A CYST THAT I AM TOLD IS WHAT CAUSES MY LOWER BACK PAIN BECAUSE IT FILLS WITH FLUID THEN EMPTYS AND STARTS AGAIN WHEN IT IS AGGRAVATED. ANOTHER DOCTOR SAID GO GET ANOTHER BRACE FOR PAIN AND THEN I READ ABOUT THOSE DOCTORS THAT USE BRACES IN ADULTS WITH SPECIAL EXERCISES TO REDUCE THE CURVE AND PAIN. ALSO I HAVE CONSTANT NECK PAIN ALSO. WHERE ARE THE ADULTS WHO ARE WEARING THE BRACES I READ ABOUT? I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU. IF THERE WAS ANOTHER SOLUTION I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR IT ALSO OR ANY SUGGESTIONS...THANKS......

Hi,
I'm sorry to hear your in so much pain...it seems to me from reading everything I can about scoliosis is that bracing and PT for an adult is not the answer..I choose surgery, for my unstable spine..I am 45 and my curve has been progressing the last two years..I cannot stand and hold myself up...everything had to stop b/c of pain...my surgery is in two days......
