  • Lyrica??

I suffer nerve pain from my scoliosis, and have been on gabapentin for the last year. I am switching over to Lyrica... Just wondering if anyone has ever tried this medication for nerve pain? Just looking for some feedback. Thanks.

I tried Lyrica and it did not help my back pain. It just gave me migrains. I have a hard time with most pain medicine. Before you start Lyrica, make sure your insurance will cover it as it is very expensive.

I was put on Lyrica after my most recent surgery while I was in rehab. I was going to continue for a while after I got home, but it didn't do much for me and wasn't covered by my insurance so I got the okay to stop taking it (since it wasn't helping anyways).
I think there have been other topics about Lyrica on the boards, if you go to the top and hit "search" just type in Lyrica.

Lyrica is great. It works for me.

What kind of nerve pain do you have? Where is it located. I also have nerve pain (tingling, pins and needles and numbness). They are not able to find where the nerve is being upset due to my spinal fusion and all the equipment/hardware there, scar tissue etc. It is very frustrating. My nerve tingling is in my right foot and is coming from the S1 nerve. For me this has been going on for about 9 years or so but has really progressed lately.

I first got on these medications about 4 years ago. I started with a medication called Topamax that did nothing for me. I then tried gabapentin (generic for neurontin). It did help but I had stomach and intestinal issues from it over time. I used that medication for 2 1/2 years only taking it at night because it made me sleepy and dopy. I finally reached up to 500 mg of gabapentin at night and it wasn't helping much, just taking the edge off a bit. It's really hard to sleep with nerve tingling huh? I switched about a year and a half ago to Lyrica. It worked similar to gabapentin for me but without the stomach issues. I believe it is a much better drug but unfortunately very expensive without a generic. My doctor says many people like Lyrica over Neurontin. It's a newer drug in that class and seems to have less side effects and work better. I still had to increase my dose to 150 mg of Lyrica at bedtime and 50 in the morning.

I have tried acupuncture which did not work for me but may for you. I also tried nerve block injections which also did not work but do for some. You might look for someone who does chronic pain management or a nerve specialist.

I am actually on Lyrica for Migraine prevention and I still have back pain. When I started taking Lyrica, I did not realize it could help with other pain, I was focused on my migraines. I still have back pain though so I don't really feel like the medicine has helped me all that much, I still have the headaches too!

I've been on Lyrica for a while now. When I started it, I felt as though it kind of took the edge of the worst of the pain but it didn't last long enough so the Doctor told me to take it more often. I have muscle spasms rather than neuropathic pain, so I probably don't benefit from it as much as you will.

              New to Lyrica

              Hello All:

I'm now 13 weeks post op and went for my 3 month follow up about a week ago. Things appear to be progressing slow but steady. My PT puts me at about 60%. The one thing that I reported to my surgeon that while the leg pain is NO WHERE NEAR the severity it was pre surgery, I am still having some residual numbness, tingling, needles. So the doctor thinks it's still some of the internal healing that is occuring, but in the meantime has put me on 75 mg of Lyrica at night to help with the pain. I've been taking it for about a week and I have to say I really haven't noticed a big change except that the medicine makes me feel lightheaded and "nervous" in the morning. I'm not really seeing a big difference and I think that's what I am going to report, so I will probably continue with the hydrocodone and celebrex combo and grin and bear the rest of it.
