    Hi Debbie,

Happy holiday's to you as well, and I hope you're feeling well and that you had a good holiday. My first Christmas and New Year after my surgeries was not as festive as normal, but I still enjoyed spending it with my family and friends.

It was somewhat of a struggle at times to get ready for it, but it was worth it.

        Thanks girls

I really did not get that many ooohs and ahhhs except for walking is getting better etc. What i am not happy with is I am still in a brace for another 3 weeks and I am very upset with my weight gain. I gained about 20 lbs. since surgery and only my elastic sweat pants fit . Some people think that they are being nice and festive with all the goodies they bring over, which it's the thought that counts, but, I am very weak when it comes to sweets.
Well, I put my mind to it to get my weight back off. I am just not happy when none...and I mean none...of my clothes fit anymore. Okay, enough with the venting. I did have a very nice holiday with my family and friends. I am usually not off work for the holidays since I work in a casino. So this holiday was special!!!

Happy New Year....With our new Backs

Hello Deb- Damned weight gain, huh? It is very hard at Christmas, I've ate like a fool myself and forgot about healthy eating for the past week. Please, please, be careful with your calcium and protein intake if you're going to diet, you're going to have to eat like an athlete to give your back what it needs to fuse. It is almost like being pregnant. No wonder you look so good, working in a casino! Your pictures on your hospital website were great. I bet that's an interesting job, I'd like to hear some "war stories" sometime....

Debbie, I know that feeling! Too many goodies gratefully recieved... combined with sitting on the couch bored, and the christmas overindulgences... has led to a weight gain for a girl who has the natural inclination towards snacking and weight gain! Not fair! I had hoped that this surgery would bring some weight loss, but no such luck. At least the new height has stretched me out and makes me look better, and the reduction in pain will help me to exercise when I'm fully recovered! Hang in there!

I'm trying to be a bit more strict, no eating after dinner... lets see how that goes!
1994 curve at age 13, 70 degrees, untreated
2000 Anterior fusion with instrumentation T9-L2, corrected to 36 degrees, 14 degree angle between fused and un-fused thoracic spine.
            2007 26 degrees junctional scoliosis
Revision surgery, 6th December 2007 T4 to L3, Posterior approach.

              Happy New Year!!

Don't worry about the weight -- when you get more active it will probably come off. You need calories to heal so don't try to diet. Get your doc to give you a script for PT !!!
