I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was 10 years old and immediately started wear a brace. I wore the brace until I was 14 and my curve had increased to 60 degrees. I had the surgery in January of 04, and so far everything has went great! I'll never forget that first time I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror after surgery. I was in my room changing clothes and all of the sudden I looked in the mirror, and I could not believe what I saw, this was not my back! My back was crooked and weird, not straight and beautiful! For the longest time I just stood there staring into the mirror, overcome with emotion. I ran (well, obviously not ran, but I moved as fast as my little post surgery body would allow! lol ) into the kitchen to my mom, crying and saying "look at me! can you believe it?"
I honestly think that was one of the happiest moments of my life

    Fantastic, Shana!

And just remember, "non-norm" never defines anyone as a person. Actually, it defines the character of those around you.

Recover, move forward, live life with gusto, and never forget ;-).

    Best regards,
    Pam

        Shana,

Yay, you! I have a question for you, since you said your surgery was in 2004. My surgeon seemed to suggest that my back will continue to straighten even more, as it adjusts to the hardware. Has that been the case for you?

Congratulations, again - you look great!
