  • Weather and Pain

    Hi all,
I'm scheduled for surgery in 1 week and 5 days...
They will be fusing the T5 S1...
Has any one else noticed that their pain gets worse with the weather?
When rain is moving in my pain seems almost intolerable.

    Arthritis

In addition to scoliosis, I also have arthritis, so I can certainly sympathize with weather related pain... I find getting in the shower helps.

      hello Marie-

I HATE cold wet weather- it makes me miserable- I can sympathize with you! I tell my friends on bad days that I have a 22 inch long barometer implanted in me and can accurately predict the weather. (someone measured my back incision and told me that's how long it was). Good thing they love a smartass.... Good luck with your surgery and please let us know how you do

I noticed that problem a little during recovery but not now--5 years post-revision.
        Original scoliosis surgery 1956 T-4 to L-2 ~100 degree thoracic (triple)curves at age 14. NO hardware-lost correction.
Anterior/posterior revision T-4 to Sacrum in 2002, age 60, by Dr. Boachie-Adjei @Hospital for Special Surgery, NY = 50% correction

I had a doctor tell me that rain does not cause pain. He's wrong! Both my daughter and i can tell when rain is coming. We have been pretty much pain free this summer as we are in a drouhgt.
