  • Block Vertebrae?

After seeing a scoliosis specialist for 6 years, not until my last appointment with Dr. Lenke did he point out that my L5-S1 is a block. Noone else mentioned it or said anything! How can that be missed? I mean, I looked at my own xrays and didn't notice it but I am not a doctor! Does anyone else have one of these? Can a block vertebrae that isn't hemi cause scoliosis? (I wouldn't think it would have an effect but any imput...)
Could a lower spine block vertebrae like this be a form of very mild spina bifida occulta? I also have this weird indent right on the top of the L5-S1 area, and my mom had a baby a couple years after I was born who died from severe spina bifida/ hydrocephalus. This was in the days of everyone being in the dark about the inportance of folic acid. I also read that in North and South Carolina, and incidence of Spina Bifida is twice as much as anywhere else in the US. I was born in North Carolina... coincidence, or possibility? Maybe I'm just overanalyzing... but it would nicely tie everything weird up in my family.
