  • How often to get xrays

    Hi all,

Quick question, especially for those of you who are waiting and watching like me. How often is it necessary to get xrays? My last two xrays were from 1998 and then 2006. My first doctor thought that it looked like my curves were progressing about half a degree per year based on those two, but another doctor didn't think there was conclusive evidence. I'm not in any pain right now and have actually had an increase in my spinal flexibility / range of motion. Part of me wonders if the curve has progressed over the last year, but part of me also wonders whether it's necessary to get xrays done every year. Any thoughts out there?

    Hi Brian,

From my experience, every Doctor I went to for a while, came up with different conclusions???

I think it's great that you are not in pain!!! But I didn't give a crap what some of the Doctor's told me. I knew my body, and I knew when things were changing. I always had pain, but I knew when I was having different pain.
And I could see the changes in my body when I would look in the mirror.
Plus I knew what my back looked like from my past xrays.

Waiting and watching is sometimes the best thing to do, but I think we all know in our hearts what the best thing to do is, so follow your gut instinct.
And if that is different from what you are being told from your Doctor's, keep on looking!!!

The reason I say this is, I went to one specialist that told me I had arthritis along with my scoliosis and that was what was increasing my pain. I had no proof of what my back look like before because my old xrays had been burned up in a house fire. So he wanted to wait a year and see if my curves progressed.

I couldn't wait another year. But you not having pain gives you the option to wait and see, and I wish you all the best.
