  • hematoma from kyphosis surgery??

My son just had surgery for Scheuermann's Kyphosis (T2-L2). He's 10 days post-op and doing great. However, he has developed a large hematoma and the doc couldn't take out the fluid...now my son says he feels "something weird" in his back that is pressing up against his ribs...Anybody have this? the Hematoma is right along the spine and about 6 in. long...

Rosemary, you should talk to the doctor about this, however I suspect that if it's along the spine (that is outside the spinal canal) then it should not be too troublesome. If the doctor is already aware of it, he/she is probably keeping a close eye on the situation as they don't want complicatiions. As long as it's not impinging on the spinal cord, it should be nothing to worry about and will eventually resorb itself. To be on the safe side, just keep on top of the doctor about it (but don't drive them crazy).
