The good news about my giving blood is: because I'm under 110 pounds, I didn't have to donate as much...only about half a pint at a time instead of a whole pint. I did check with Dr. Boachie's office today and they said it was okay.

A word to the wise: If anyone waiting for surgery is also under 110, call ahead to wherever you're having blood taken to make sure they have the "kiddie bags" on hand....I had to wait 2 hours today while they drove the smaller bags in from the Red Cross headquarters in Philadelphia.

Hi Chris,

Information like that makes this forum so important in my opinion!!!

I just want to add to the new members here, that I gave my blood through the Red Cross, and received a letter in the mail that I had tested positive for Hep. C. They even contacted my local Health Department, and I was put on the list for infectious disease.

I went a year thinking I had it and wondering how I got it, even accused my husband. I finally asked my family doctor to test me for it when I had my annual check up, and I didn't have it.

The Red Cross is a great organization, I was disappointed that I spent a year embarrassed, wondering how I got it, and depressed that I had it. I even made everyone that gave me any kind of assistance after my surgery wear rubber gloves.

OMG Shari, that is unbelievable! I can't believe you spent a year believing you had it!!

Based on my experience with the Red Cross I spent hours at yesterday, I'm not too surprised....

Thanks for the heads-up!

OMG that is sooo scary!!!! How could they make such a mistake???

Chris,

Your surgery is right around the corner. You'll be in great hands with Dr. Boachie, that's for sure. :)

I am under 110 as well... I was told I was not able to donate at all. Luckily I did not need it!

Honestly, a bit sore, but all in all not too bad.
I had a couple of setbacks that have left me a little behind in recovery, but I am in recovery!
How are you doing, Chris?
