Hi,
I'm looking for a doctor- preferably a scoliosis specialist in Southern California.
I want a doctor that knows all of the details/is current on scoliosis, one that knows nerves (pinched, etc.) as well because I think my curves are starting to pinch a few more nerves.
Any recommendations on who to see or who to stay away from would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Tracy

What kind of doctor are you looking for? An orthopedic surgeon type or somewhere to get physical therapy/pain relief. If it is the later, my daughter has been seeing an awesome chiropractor in Tustin for the last 4 years. He specializes in scoliosis and has been treating it for about 15 years. He treats a age range of patients with scoliosis - from children to senior citizens. If you want his name and number, please send me a private message and I'll post it for you.

I'm not exactly sure what I am looking for... I saw an orthopedist when I was younger and my scoliosis was first discovered. From reading other messages it seems as though there are scoliosis specialists... I'm not quite sure what the difference is. I know for sure I don't want to see a chiropractor- that was the first person I saw to help treat my scoliosis and it only made the pain worse.
Whichever type of doctor would recommend physical therapy or surgery or an MRI or nerve test to find out what is wrong would be great. I just want to find someone that wants to help do something about it- every doctor I saw in the past simply said I shouldn't have pain and that we would monitor it and it shouldn't get worse- well they were all wrong- I do have pain and it did get worse now I'm looking for someone that will do something about it... I'm just not sure what type of doctor that would be.

Hi,
Dr. Behrooz Akbarnia in San Diego (La Jolla Spine Institute) seems to have an excellent reputation. A woman on the forum (Brynnski) just had surgery with him yesterday. I know of another young lady (15) who will be having surgery with Dr. Akbarnia also. I have been referred to him myself but have not yet sought a consult. I was also given the names of Dr. Raman Bagheri (works with Dr. Akbarnia) or Dr. Steve Garfin. I'm sure someone will chime in with names of Drs. in Orange and Los Angeles Co.
