  • My Surgery Date!

I found out last week that my surgery date is June 19. I will be having anterior and posterior surgery (T9-Pelvis). My second surgery is tentatively scheduled for June 26! I look forward to the encouragement, support and positive comments that everyone on this forum has to offer! Sue

Thanks for your response and questions. Well, I've seen 3 different Orthopedic surgeons, and each has had a different opinion of my curvature. One said 48 degrees, one said 58 degrees, and my current doctor says it is 42 degrees. I guess it all depends on where they measure, and the instrument they use to measure. I am 47 years old and have elected to have this surgery now since I believe I am in the best health that I will be in (it's all downhill from here )! I also have degenerative disc disease, and will have up to 6 discs and a rib removed through the anterior surgery. The rib will be used for the fusion! I hope you can prevent your curve from increasing through exercise. I know a local girl (a teenager) who did it! Good Luck!

          Hi Sue,

Looks like we'll both be under anesthesia at the same time -- my surgery is the same date as yours. Good luck to us both, eh? And by the way, I'm a fellow "shorty" (and still shrinking....)

          Who is your surgeon?

Thanks for your note Chris! How about that...our surgeries are the same day! Will you be having anterior and posterior the same day? My surgeon is Jeffrey Stambough in Cincinnati, OH! Have you started making any preparations?

              Hi Sue,

Yes, as long as I do well on my pre-op tests, I'll be having both surgeries the same day. I'm a little older than you, almost 52, but a young 52!

Yep, I'm deep in the preparation phase -- and trying to keep very busy so my imagination doesn't work overtime!
