when i told my friends they were shocked. they all felt really bad for me but let them know they will help you.
i just told them yesterday and be aware they might ask you questions

Hi, dont worry so much about what others think.If they are your friends they will be supportive.My daughter was a little worried too.But it all worked out her friends actually try it on and they all joke about how lucky she is....They have fun with it and you should too.Its a piece of plastic that can be removed,it could be so much worse.My daughter is 12 and super tiny weighing 70lbs now and her friends are loving the fact that we hve to buy bigger pants for her to fit around the brace.Now they can share!!! Take my advice your real friends love you no matter what,you will be amazed you will find the best in them when you least expect it and it will probably bring you closer

When I told my friends about me having Scoliosis, I got weird looks off them to start off with, but now they understand and they've also supported me about me having an operation. I've had a few of them say that they'll come in and pay me a visit or send me something. True friends are the ones that stick by you, if they don't then their not true friends.

I told them and they didn't say anything. Actually they didn't care. But it was very hard to tell them. You should tell them now before they fell hurt that you didn'y tell them earlier.

mine were all like omg omg! then some didnt notice at all and others started pokeing me... :rolleyes:

some of my friends didnt notice until i bent down and they saw the hump of the brace on my back.. but some that did were first shocked and asked alot of questions like: is it comfortable?? do u also have to sleep with it?? how does it look like?? and so on..some of my friends take it as a joke and start kocking on my back.. but dont worry.. if they are really your friends they wont really judge you by how you look.. they will judge you by how you are inside and will be very supportive... by the way, i still have some friends that dont even know/ realize..!! lol

When I told my friends they listened and asked some questions exp: "Can you take it off?" "Do you have to where it when you sleep?" But after that they didn't treat me any different although they still ask some questions here and there. :)

I know I already posted in here but all my friends tryed it on and then they knew how bad it hurt the first time. So all my friends know how I feel. Ifound out half my friends didn't know when I was wearing it, and when they do know I'm wearing it they always tap my stomach and then I tap theirs so they dont do it no more. but my friends are very suportive and i've even met friend that have a brace and we became good friends.

Well my friends were really worried when i first told them i mite have to have surgery or wear a brace, they said they would be there for me all the way!! :) ....and now i wear a brace and my friends still kinda make fun of me, well not really make fun of me but they just knock on my brace and its kinda embarrasing :( ... and what even more embarrasing is when the boys come to hug you, and they feel it and there like what that heck was that?? it makes me feel kinda frustrated :mad: .

krisdail u shouldnt be embarressed!! never!! my friends also knock on my back and they always are like " awesome!!" and im like okkkkaayyy.. and about when people hug me.. well ya.. its kinda like weird cuz then they all look at me like what in the world?!?! but right after i tell them that its just sumthing for my spine, and ofcourse only to the people that dont know i have it... lol.. i find it better to tell those people just like yea.. its just a thingy for my back.. rather than telling them all the story.. Hey guys! My name is Megan, I am 19 (but will be 20 on monday!). I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was 11, and wore a Providence Brace for a couple of years. My curve was over-corrected at one point (which is really good) but I kept growing and didn't wear the brace as much as I should have so it got worse again. I ended up needing surgery when my curve reached about 64 degrees. I had the surgery in Boston when I was 14, so almost 6 years ago. I play tons of sports and the metal rods only prevent me from playing tackle football and doing gymnastics, as instructed by my doctor :). And now for a summer job I am working in the orthopaedics department in sports medicine in the hospital where I had my surgery! So pleeease, if you have ANY questions at all, I'd love to answer them! :)
