Any objective comments using Schroth method?

I'm trying to find out if anyone has personal experience with physical therapists, or any other healthcare worker that uses the Schroth method of exercises for scoliosis? Besides the family members of Scoliosis Rehab in Wisconsin, I'd be interested in hearing from patients (or practitioners) who have tried this. Any info supported by x-ray findings? Postural corrections seen upon discharge as compared to initial evaluations? As a physical therapist myself, I'm interested in learning more.

did you have any responses to your thread. I am really interested in finding out more on this method. They claim to improve your curve and help you stabilise it. I am awaiting surgery and want to know I have covered all paths before I go ahead.

just read your posting-- its old but i thought I'd reply. There are a few therapists in the US certified in the Schroth method. I've been researching it a while and have met with a therapist, and my daughter, for several days. A few are in Wisc. I know of one in California and a few in VA...

Thanks for replying. Just got back from 4 days in Maryland to get treated for my scoliosis. Thought it was very valuable experience and hope more people do the research as this method seems like it's a great alternative to "wait and see". Did you go to Wisconsin for treatment?

the view on german (germany is the home of schroth) scoliosis forums, is that schroth might make some difference, but that a good brace is much, much more important. And good means lots of correction, at least 50%. Some german brace makers appear to be getting absolutely amazing correction figures (well over 50%)

Can you give us any example exercises that the method has you do? I emailed the clinic to see if there are any certified therapists in my area. I would love to go to the Wisconsin clinic for the 2 week treatment but won't have time until over a year from now. Any examples/advice you can pass on to the rest of us who can't make it to see a specialist for awhile?

It is very difficult to give examples of the exercises because it depends on where your curves and postural assymetries are, so the exercises will be different for different people. However, the principles of Schroth is the same, which is self-elongation, derotational breathing, postural alignment and I believe in some cases, vestibular retraining (from www.scoliosissolutions.org).
The exercises address the 3-D restrictions and deformities of scoliosis. Other websites to check out are: www.skoliose.com where they list locations of certified therapists. In the mean time, I believe staying as active and flexible as possible, with an emphasis on core strengthening is always a plus.
As far as bracing, as a teen I wore a Milwaulkee brace, and like most braces seemed to halt the progression for only a limited time. Since bracing is not an option for me as an adult, I belive the Schroth method provides a great alternative.

I am glad you have had the Schroth experience . Adults with increase of pain will benefit also by the use of the Rigo-Chaneau brace and the Physio-logic (TM) brace specially for females after menoupasse.
There is an Orthostist in Los Angeles :Gez@ophub.com who has been trainned in these braces.

I tried emailing every website with the schroth method listed and none have emailed me back. I am very interested but would need to find someone near where I live. Who did you email/where can I find a listing/or do you know of any practitioners in southern CA?
