  • anyone tried electronic muscle stimulators?

    Hi,
Has anyone tried using an EMS (electronic muscle stimulator) device? There's one called the Rhythm Touch Q that I'm interested in. The website is: http://www.netproductstore.com/ . I'd be interested to hear about other people's experiences.
    Thanks!

    Hi Ivan...

In a well regarded study from many years ago, it was discovered that electrical stimulation does absolutely nothing to change the natural history of scoliosis. It had the same success rate as no treatment.

        A distraction from the pain

        Hi Ivan,

I was given one by my physical therapist to use before I had my surgery to help with the chronic pain. They work ok, I guess on a small area. The electronic pulses make your muscles lightly contract which fatigues the muscle causing the pain. It doesn't really relieve the pain, just distracts you from it, I think. Once you turn it off, it's still there. There is a pocket-size one that you can put in your back pocket and wear while you do whatever. You are connected to the electrodes through it. It is worth a try if you need something to keep you going, I guess, but actually massage and physical therapy exercises helped me more.

          Ivan,
Just be aware that the electrical stimulante can help with JUST muscle pain or tightness, but will not do a thing to steighten your spine.

            Deb...

I think you probably had a TENS unit, which I believe is different than electrical stimulation.
