Hi,
I saw my specialist about a month ago and i was told i need to have surgery. As i know its normal for them to write a letter to my doctor that referred me to him, but when i saw my doctor i wasn't allowed to get a copy of the letter sent by my specialist.
Is this normal? Or do they do this for privacy reasons?
It just worries me that they don't want me to see something in the letter!!!!

I wouldnt worry Lee as your doctor has to tell you everything pertaining to your case . I can understand though why you would worry, probably scared there was something there he wasnt telling you.
Although we are entitled to see our historys with our doctors, so if you asked, he really should have let you see it. I just pick mine up off the folder and read what I want to and my doctor never says a thing. If he did say something I would just say" hey its my body and about me so I have a right to know."
I am lucky I have a great doctor.

He did read me the important bit i think about the risks and how i have to have it and also that im yound so ill bounce back pretty good.
At the end of the letter it does say please do not hand out to a third party my doc said most high up specialist don't like people handing out stugg unless me myself asks him for it... Apparently they get cut.
Thanks for replying macky :) leelee xx

I don't know what the laws governing patient privacy are in Australia but I should hope you are entitled to any and all info. pertaining to your health.
