Hi everyone, I have more neck pain recently than anywhere else (no cervical curve). Does anyone know if a thorcic fusion will help?

Jsully,
I have had annoying neck pain now for about 2 weeks. Hoping it is just a stiff neck.... I have a thoracic curve & lumbar about 60/60... It sounds like I may be fused up to T-2.. I was wondering about my neck too....I'll ask at pre-op next week & get back to you..............Ly

I also have neck kinks which cause various pains/spasms until they are worked out with massage, stretches, or chiropractic adjustments. My fusion surgery is from T-3 down. I know from this site that the surgery puts extra stress on the unfused vertebrae and wears them out quicker, but was wondering if the change in tension or pull from the corrected thoracic area makes any difference in cervical problems.

Good luck, Deb!! I hope that everything goes smoothly and that you're back on the boards in no time. It's amazing to me how quickly people seem to bounce back from this. I'm sure you will too.

My neck does have more stiffness after having surgery, but before I had more pain in the thoracic spine. My guess is if you have pain pre op, it doesn't hurt to see if post op would be better. Massages and PT helps. I also consulted an osteo and acupuncture specialist.

I had no cervical pain pre op and after my rod removal began getting migranes. now i get cervical pain with my headaches. we dont know if they are true migranes or tension type. they have diagnosed them as combination type. i go to a chiropractor once a week and that helps A LOT!!!

I always had neck pain and problems until my surgery and now I don't. It's funny, I never even thought about my neck pain again until just now and I realized, holy crap! It hasn't hurt or been stiff or locked up at all since surgery!

Awesome! I hope mine will disappear too! It's more annoying than any backpain because if I don't load up on the IB's right away it will cause a migrane! I keep thinking it will go away but its been hanging around on and off for about a month. The chiropracter helps for awhile but then it comes back.

I believe that my neck pain flairs up when I hold my back straight, it also goes into my shoulders and causes headaches. When my back hurts extremely bad, I can't hold myself straight and I have less neck pain. I hope that made sense.

I have a 55 degree thoracolumbar curve and thought my neck pain was related to a previous car accident, but my surgeon said that neck pain is also common with "lower" curves. I did not realize that, but I guess it is all connected more than we think.
Best of luck.

wow! Maybe I'm hoping for the world here, but I sure hope that eventually goes away after the operation... I can't tell if my neck pain is back or just stress related since I only have a week to go till operation time! I have a 95 thorocolumbar curve..........Ly
