Hey everyone, I am currently reading "Socliosis Surgery: The Definitive Patients Reference" by David K. Wolpert. Has anyone else read this? Any comments about it? It actually refers to these forums in the book! Also, does anyone have any suggestions for useful resources (books, websites, etc) about scoliosis and surgery? I am looking for as much information as possible. These message boards have certainly been useful!

Thank you,
Kathryn

Yes! It's a great book and really informative, since I had no idea what to expect with surgery. I even emailed David, the author, and asked him about surgeons and he acutally emailed me back and that's how I found out about this forum. I found the book online when I went on the National Scoliosis Foundation. I also found Stopping Scoliosis, and Getting Ready, Getting Well, both really good. But Scoliosis Surgery is the best overall I think.
I also am open to learn more before I venture into this surgery, if anyone has more good informative reading for us facing scoliosis surgery.

I read the book "The Scoliosis Handbook, A Consultation with a Specialist" by Dr. Michael Neuwirth. A very informative and helpful book I got all the information I needed from that book to make a list of questions to ask my son's doctor. I was able to pick it up at the library.

I found Dr. Michael Neuwirth's book to be the most well written and informative of anything I've read. I actually had a ray of hope after reading his book.

Yes, I read David Wolpert's book and found it very educational and informative before and after surgery. Dr. Michael Neuwirth is actually my surgeon's partner and was in surgery with me, but I didn't know he wrote a book!

Ordered that book today! Thanks for the info. I only wish I had it before my next appointment 8/1. Amazon.com says book will not arrive till 8/13-8/15 :( . I'm going to make my mom read it too! She does not think I need surgery simply because my aunt has scoliosis and never did.

That's must be very frustrating Jsully! Obviously, every case of scoliosis is very different. I'm sure you've told her that. The books is excellent; it gives enough detail to be satisfying to the person actually going through the surgery, but is easy enough to read for someone who really just wants the basics of it.

I read Dr.Neuwirth's book and I found it very informative. He is the surgeon that I am seeing and he gave me the book to read. I really like him, and I think I am going to have the surgery in June 2007.
