Some of you may remember that my son, Alex, was diagnosed in July 2005 with idiopathic juvenile scolisis with an "s" curve at the age of 5 years. (30 degree thoracic curve and 28 degree lumbar curve if memory serves me here.) Well, his pediatric ortho surgeon asked if there was any family history of scoliosis and I replied, "not that we know of."

Here I am at the age of 31 and I just found out Friday that I have scoliosis and an abnormality of my L5-S1 transverse process. Had the scoliosis x-rays done, Friday, but they're not read yet, so I don't know exactly to what degree mine is yet.

Anyway, I've been wondering if there has been definite genetic research done anywhere that proves that scoliosis is a hereditary trait/disorder? Does anyone know?

Thanks everyone! :)
