Well folks- tomorrow I go in for pre-op at Bethesda Medical Center for a spinal fusion from T10 to S1. I am hoping it will be smaller once they get in there.
Surgery is at 0530 on Tuesday morning so tomorrow is the last day of the board. I will ask my wife to work this for me afterward-
This is most certainly a spooky time- even with all my previous replacement surgeries. I find myself to be very scatterbrained. For the sake of the national defense- I plan not to work tomorrow at the Pentagon. :)
Any last minute advise for a long fusion. I have been reading the messages carefully. I noticed most are female with a few males- but I guess spines are pretty gender neutral.
I have a neurosurgeon, Othro Spinal surgeon (the primary), and a vascular surgeon. They have the OR for 8 - 10 hours. Yikes and yikes again.
May God Walk with You.

Will be thinking of you and hope it all goes smoothly. :)

As for last minute advice, make sure all your stuff at home is in order, seating area, bed area, lots of pillows and things to do. I don't suggest books or mags, your brain will be sizzled. Movies will be your fave hobby.

Get some easy to slide on shoes as shoes are a pain in the ass to do and it's frustrating as hell. Not only for the person who has to keep putting them on and taking them off of you, but for you. It's discouraging to look down at your own feet and know you can't get your own damn shoes on. It brought me to tears on many occasions. It's shoes for gods sakes! Something you've been doing since you were a small child and now ya just can't. :(
I'll be 4 months on the 16th and I still can't do my own damn shoes!...lmao

Take it easy. In and out. In and out. It will be over before you know it and then onto bigger and better things in life soon enough.

Eric,

Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us on this board. We'll be with you in spirit during and after your surgery and will be anxiously watching the board to hear how you are doing. (Which we know will be great, of course!)
Isn't it nice to have read from all these people on here? When you get anxious, hopefully, some of it will comfort you when you remember how many have successfully come through!

I'm awaiting my surgery date, probably end of July. T3-4 to L5 or S-1 --awaiting final x-ray to know for sure.

You're going to feel so good when it's finally over and you wake up in the hospital and it's DONE. Have a successful surgery and speedy recovery.
I brought and loved my warm, comfy robe. When you're scheduled to arrive home try to already have a raised toilet seat in place. Mine is simple plastic and just pops on and off. Also, a good shower seat for when you can finally take a shower.

Even tho I just got here a few days ago I already feel quite a connection to the group. I pray for angels in that OR room to watch and keep you and for the surgeons hands to be guided by the Great Physician. God bless you and bring you safely through. Linda
