I know this has been posted in the research folder, but I wanted to post here as well as it is amazing and exciting news for future generations :D I was watching the news last night and they were talking about how researchers at Ste.Justine hospital here in Montreal are working on a blood test that could diagnose idiopathic scoliosis in children and teens, so that the treatment could prevent surgery and start earlier. I don't have a link in English but if any have other info on it, feel free to post. I will check more links later, I don't have all the details but it's been posted already :cool: Dr. Cotrel who invented the CD rods(Cotrel Dubousset, in French) was there, he flew from France and was VERY excited.
I saw two young women on the news segment, possibly late teens/early adults who have had the surgery and I was surprised to see that they looked stiff and did say that they were limited in what they could do, and talked about how scoliosis affects the ones who suffer from it so deeply on every level-physically, psychologically and emotionally-from wearing braces to getting surgery, and I could relate SO much! One has already had revision surgery for her curve coming back, and it made me feel more "normal" that sometimes we need more than one try to have the surgery work.
I wish that this test existed when I was young but it's so encouraging for some of the women who want children who have scoliosis and don't want their children to suffer the same as them-I can understand that completely :)
