  • Snow Sking?

I wore a milwalkee brace when I was young..... 2 curves (s curve). I had surgery in 1989 and am 34 now. I skied when I was young with the brace and afterwards and have skied since my surgery in 1989. Don't get me wrong, this isn't "all the time".... I live in Texas. Now, I am going next week and am a little nervous. Over the last two years I have been having back pain and my right leg/hip is having numbness. I wonder if there is any danger (other than regular dangers of sking) in my sking?
Background - Diagnosed in 1981 with a s-curve. Very progressive. Wore a Milwalkee brace from 1981-1986. I had back surgery in 1989....spinal fusion with Harrington rods and bone from my hip.

    Hi...

I don't think anyone can tell you for sure if there's any danger. It's not an emergency, and certainly something you couldn't get done before skiing, but I think you should probably take some time to get checked by a scoliosis specialist to see what might be causing your pain.

I have been checked and basically they don't know and don't think it is bad enough to worry about I guess. They have suggested doing shots in my back to see if that helps before considering removing the rods.

I am not crazy on the slopes so I will just go and be careful as usual. Thanks for responding.
