  • Any Canadians out there?

I just found out that I have to have surgery for scoliosis and was wondering if there is anyone who has had the surgery in Canada, any recommended surgeons? and what to expect?

    Hi Beachbum,

I just thought I would say Hi and Welcome. There are people here from Canada. You will find there are a lot of caring and supportive people here.

Until they are able to respond to you, go to the top of the screen and click on "Search" then type in "Canada" and threads will come up that in some way relate to Canada.

    Hope that helps for now,
    Shari

I'm from Canada There are a lot of excellent surgeons in Canada ! Dr. Douglas Hedden in Edmonton and Dr. Charles Rivard in Montreal are just two to name a few. If you want to do a search for scoliosis specialists in Canada, try this link:

        Hi Beachbum I'm from Montreal.

After doing research, I found that the best surgeon for adult scoliosis here is Dr.Jean Ouellet at the Montreal General Hospital. He just did my revision surgery for a broken rod and fusion in December. My first surgery was not done by him, it was done by Dr. Max Aebi back in '97, but that doctor went back to Switzerland. Dr.Ouellet assisted him at the time and he does children, adult and revision.
35 y/old female from Montreal, Canada
Diagnosed with scoliosis(double major) at age 12, wore Boston brace 4 years at least 23 hours a day-curve progressed
        Surgery age 26 for 60 degree curve in Oct. 1997 by Dr.Max Aebi-fused T5 to L2
Surgery age 28 for a hook removal in Feb. 1999 by Dr.Max Aebi-pain free for 5 years
Surgery age 34 in Dec.2005 for broken rod replacement, bigger screws and crosslinks added and pseudarthrosis(non union) by Dr. Jean Ouellet

I used to be Canadian! (Or should I say Canadienne? )

I was born there, but to US parents, so I had dual citizenship. I had to choose one, so I became just a US citizen when I was about 16 yo. I do live right on the US/Canadian border though, so I still say "eh"!
          Meg is Spinewhine
31 years old with thoracic curve
Wore Boston brace as teenager, but curve continued to progress.
Surgery on 12/13/2005 with correction from over 55 degrees to under 25 degrees. (Ya baby!)
