I have been looking all over for an answer to this question and I can't find any info at all on it...

If a person is told they Have Adult Scoliosis have you ever been told that you can no longer drive a car more then 30 minutes or you will be risking your life???? Please I need help finding out if this is true or not.

Who told you that?! I am 50 and have scoliosis and I drive! Before my surgery I had a thorasic curve of 79 degrees and that didn't stop me from driving hours! Are your curves really big, is there maybe some other health issue for someone to say that? If you look at this board you'll see that there are plenty of us over 50 and we're all still driving and working.
    Theresa

    April 8 & 12, 2004 - Anterior/Posterior surgery 15 hours & 7 hours
    Thorasic - 79 degree down to 22
    Lumbar - 44 degree down to 18
    Fused T2 to sacrum
    June 2, 2005 - Pedicle subtraction osteotomy @L3 7 hours
MAY 21, 2007 - Pedicle subtraction osteotomy @ L2, extended the fusion to S2 and added pelvic instrumentation 9 hours

    FUSED T2 - SACRUM 2

      This is the Story:

My Husband, has an ex-wife that is now withholding his kids from him. A year ago she took off and moved more then an hour and a half away from us and refused to meet us. We went to court, she tried to pull the crap in court last year that she couldn't drive because she had back pain. The MRI she included showed nothing was wrong just normal wear on her back. We went all Summer and in November when or last court date was to settle where she was going to have to meet us with the kids she didn't show. So the Judge gave us what we wanted and kept the meeting place the same as what she was doing all summer. Which is an hour drive for her and a 1/2 hour drive for us. Well in Jan. when we got the Court Order papers stating she had to start meeting us every week now. (Now she had no problem driving the hour before this.) Now she is telling us she has Scoliosis and she can't drive more then 30 minutes/miles because it will risk her life.....

So if you all can help me by emailing me that you have never heard of this so that when we go to court the Judge can have this information it would be of great help to me. My husband has not been able to see his two sons who are 7 and 3 for over a month and his ex-wife is lying to them about why they aren't coming here. I need Help!!!

        Hi Mrey,

It sounds to me like more than her spine is twisted. If she is risking her life by sitting in a car for 60 minutes, then taking care of 2 young boys should kill her pretty soon!!!

        That's amazing,
        Shari

          What a story!!

What a story! Like Shari said she's got more going on! Unless she's very seriously, life-threatening impaired....and if that's so -again- how can she possibly care for two active, young boys!
          Good luck!

I don't know if you have the money to do this, but I'd hire a scoliosis specialist who could testify that the ex-wife is full of it.

My vote goes with Linda! But you may have better luck getting your attorney to find a doc willing to testify that she is full of it as I think most docs may be leary of legal things

I have been behind the wheel since age 16. I had A/P surgery for an S curve of 66T/70L in 2000. There is absolutely no problem driving before or after surgery.....ever I'm 56 yrs.

Thank you very much everyone, you have been so much help. My attorney told me that when this goes to trial we can't use paper (e-mails) because it can't be cross examined. I might try and find a doctor but I don't think we'll need one. I have sent some of the replies to my husbands x-wife to show that she is out of her skull

Again thanks for all your help and I wish you all luck with your condition. I know where to come if it happens to me

                    Hi mrey...

There are plenty of retired scoliosis specialists who would probably be willing to testify for a fee. Where are you located?

Here are the NY specialists who I know are retired:

                          John R. Devanny, Rochester
                          P. William Haake, Scottsville
                          James E Holmblad, Schnectady

                          Andrew W. Lawrence, Centerport
                          David B. Levine, Pine Plains

Hope you find someone to help. Using an illness as an excuse when one isn't truly disabled makes me nuts.

                          Linda

                            Thanks Linda!

She's a lazy piece of crap and I wouldn't be suprise if she's not trying to get SSD so she never has to work again.

Like I said before thanks for all your help! Take Care

I don't know how I found this, because I was looking up info on something else, but try this website: http://www.expertwitness.com. All I can say is that someone must have wanted me to find it for you.
