  • will surgery straighten the back?

I haven't had the surgery so I want to ask you guys who had it. Did your back really straighten up or is there still some crookedness or hump there. How big or small, or is it visible still?

    Hi Lily...

Most people get a lot of correction, but few (if any) are perfectly straight afterward. If you're a candidate for surgery, and your rib hump is of particular concern, I'd recommend that you find a surgeon who routinely performs thoracoplasty, which is surgery to reduce the rib hump in addition to straightening the spine.

On my web site, I have a page with links to a lot of surgeon's web sites. Many of them contain x-rays and/or pictures of before and after surgery.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend that you use the information found on those web sites to choose a surgeon, but I thought they might give you some idea of what is possible. (I'm fairly certain that surgeons are most likely to put up their best results as opposed to their worst results.)

    Regards,
