I recently found out that I had scoliosis. I was really scared. Hench the username. I have a 17 degree curve. It isn't as bad as some, but I still got really upset. If anyone has any info that could encourage me or tell me a little bit about that story I would greatly appreciate it. Well my family is arriving for CHRISTMAS EVE soon so ttyl!!

How old are you? If you're almost done growing that should not be a problem. I'm 15 and still growing with a progressive curve of 38 degrees, and I'm having the surgery in June.

I am 13. My doctor told me that I am mostly done growing. Well not completely done but I won't get anymore growth spurts. So that's a good thing. Yea I'm pretty lucky since my curve is only 17 degrees. Well thanks for your advice. Good luck w/ surgery and I hope it goes good. I'm sure you'll do just fine.

hi i was upset about my scoliosis too, and still get upset quite a lot acutually. this is because i have an 'S' shape spine, so i have 2 curves. One is 70 degrees and one is 60-70 degrees and it kinda makes me have a bad body image. The thing is, my doctor doesn't seem so worried about the size of my curves, but i thought that they were really high and that i would probably need surgery. So i don't really know where i stand with it anymore

If your curves are 60 and 60-70, your doctor should care more. I'm not trying to get you scared, but my doctor said that if my curves go above 50-55 then surgery would probably be likely. Don't worry though, I'm not a specialist so maybe you're case is different. Good Luck!

            no worries!

No worries! Nothing to be scared of! 17 degrees is not bad AT ALL! Are you young? I remember when I was diagnosed. I was 12. It is scarey now for you...but you will be just fine! I am 28 with a 42 degree curve, I have not had surgery because the chiropractor worked for me. It does for some people, and not for others...just explore your options and read!! I have no pain and live an active life...you can too. Just stay strong. Excercise and eat good. At only 17 degrees you have plenty of time to learn, grow and heal. Scoliosis is not the end of the world, even though right now you may think it is. It is also very common in young women...so we have to support each other. Talking is a good idea. Good luck!

If you get checked in Puerto Rico, the best doctor here is really strict. I'm 16 and I have a lower 38 degree curve, and my surgery is scheduled for June 7, 2006.
