  • Big decision when I have no serious pain yet...

    Hi,
I've been following this forum for several days now. I was checked a week & 1/2 ago in NYC. By Dr. Boachie. I have'nt received my paperwork yet containing my curve degrees but it looks horrible on the xrays. I know it's above 60 because it looks like a half circle on the left lumbar area. My hump is halfway up my back on the left side. I really don't have any pain or numbness as of yet although I can feel the hump & have to straighten up after getting out of bed since I'm pulled to the left. I'm worried I'll have more pain after an operation since I have none now. I have to decide if this curve will keep getting worse. I'm 46 now. I have lost several inches ht. over the years. I feel it increased the last few yeas after the birth of my second child. I feel that's when I lost the ht. any thoughts/ opinions??

    Hi...

Did you realize that you posted this topic in the "under 18" forums? Wishful thinking? ;-)

    What did Dr. Boachie recommend?

      Hi,

My situation sounds similar to yours. I have a left thoracolumbar curve diagnosed just this year at 74 degrees. I am 56 years old. I have lost height within the past eight years...from 5'6½" to 5'4" so it has obviously progressed. Even though all these years I have been pain free (until this year which prompted me to see a specialist), I am quite concerned about continued progression and the likelihood of ending up disabled and in debilitating pain. I have an appointment on Thursday with an adult scoliosis specialist in Chicago and I'm almost certain he will recommend surgery. This is very scary, especially at my age. Height loss is a sure sign of progression, and I don't think that the curve can suddenly stabilize on its own. My x-ray too looked like a half-circle in the lumbar spine.

Good luck with your decision and keep us posted.

      Chris

        good luck. Chris

        Chris,
good luck at your doctor's visit tomorrow. I would be interested in what they say. I went down in ht. the most since I had my second child(now 7).
Have a nice holiday season! Lynne ps. I have'nt got my paper work back from Dr. Boachie yet but believe my curve is about the same as yours...
