My son had surgery last week

My son had surgery performed by Dr. Stephen Lewis at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto ONtario. Instead of taking bone from a cadaver or from his hip, Dr. Lewis said that there was plenty of his own bone available in his riblets. Has anyone else's surgeon used the same technique? It is now 6 days post-op and my son came home today. He is doing well but very fatigued and in a fair bit of pain. This is a great site, very helpful and informative.

Welcome to the forum and to the other side of surgery. As far as I know it is the doctors preference as to where the bone comes from. The first 2 or 3 weeks home are the worst. But each day will get better from now.

I assume the operation you are talking about is what my daughter had, thoracoplasty. She is doing wonderful now. Kris
