I had a Harrington rod fitted in my spine at the age of 12 years, I am now 39 years old.

I am currently having pain in the bottom of my spine, the Dr said to take paracetomol. I also have osteoporosis. The pain I am suffering is a burning pain.

Can you suggest any sort of treatment/ what I should do about this pain?

Many thanks

Graham,
Since you have a Harrington and the type of pain you are describing you might want to get a second opinion from a doc that deals with adult scoli patients. The "hook" at the bottom of your rod may have broken, which would cause the pain.

I agree you should see a scoliosis specialist or at the very least get a spinal Xray. I suffered for years with neck and back pain and lo and behold a routine chest Xray years later showed a fractured Harrington rod. No one ever suspected that. I was even diagnosed by one doctor with fibromyalgia.

I suggest you to try with acupunture or TENS those are not invasive measures with good results.
You can get information at Pain Relief Advisor (http://www.painreliefadvisor.com)
