        My appointment!

Well.. first I gotta say that Dr. Goytan is great. Him and his team really took the time to ask me questions and stuff and I've been to a lot of doctors.. the great ones are always few and far between so I felt very lucky.

We're going to wait and watch for the next year before going ahead with the surgery. It seems that my curves weren't as bad when I was younger as I was told.. but now they are as bad as I thought they were when I was 15.. does that make sense? Anyway.. he said the curves have progressed about 20 degrees (i think, i forget cuz my fiancè wasn't in the room with me so my brain is overflowing.. a tape recorder would have been a good idea) it's either 20 or 25 anyway. And he explained the kind of surgery he thinks would be best for me when we get to it. For now I am to go see a PT for my pain that I have in my right shoulder.

Baby steps.. but they are BIG baby steps. I am very excited and happy

            It's been almost a year!

            Hey everyone

Well, it's time for my 2nd appointment with the doctor. I go to see him tomorrow. I'm very nervous.

Sorry I haven't been on here much, but having such a long wait I tried to focus on things other than my back. It was hard to read all those posts about people getting surgery appointments right away (silly old Canada makes me wait for everything) but I'll let you all know how it goes. Hopefully he'll have some good news so I can come on here more and be helpfull or something hehe

              Hi there,
I know how you feel. I myself had waited 4 months to see my specialist i had 50 degrees top and 50 bottom curves at the age of 15 yrs old, and i was suppose to go back when i was 18 yrs old after being told my curves wouldn't progress. Silly me went the specialist a couple of months ago now im 21yrs old to find out my top curve has progressed to 60 degrees and now i need surgery. I'm thinking next year. I have to get Anterior and Posterior surgery.
Let me know how you go tomorrow.

              Love Lee
              Had surgery May 28th 2007 Anterior/Posterior getting fused from T3 - L3

                Still in shock..

Sorry it took so long for me to get back on here. The appointment did not go how I expected it to. It was actually better, in an unexpected way.

Apparently my curves have stablized. My surgeon said that there is no need for surgery. He said I can go ahead and have children (my husband and I have been waiting for over a year now) And that we'll just monitor it every year.

Also I was able to have a look at the report from my last visit and apparently the degree number I was given were also wrong. T is 55 and L is 40. I don't know why I heard different. I'm very excited but as I said, shocked (and surprised) I'm glad that I don't need surgery yet, but I'm nervous about what might happen down the road.

Thank you all so much for your support.

Thats great news. At least now you can get on with starting your family. But make sure you do get check ups.
                  Stay Well.

That's great that you don't have to get surgery. Did the physical therapy help your pain? Are you still in pain?
