  • sensation in back

Do any of you recall having a burning sensation in your back while recovering? I'm past the 7 month mark and hoped that these little random aches and pains were done, but for the past 2 days I've had a burning sensation along the right side of my mid back alongside one of my vertebrae where the spine and the rod meet. Last night and this morning, it was constant and now it's coming and going. I'm hoping it's just nerves coming back to life...any ideas????

    Thanks!

I'm just coming up on my 2 month mark and I get the burning pain in my upper back on the left side that will more than likely turn into a sharp stinging/stabbing pain that often leaves me in tears. I hope this is all just part of the healing process. I hope it's nothing to be concerned about.

It could be your nerves growing back together. The left side of my back tingled and itched like you couldn't believe for about a year. Now it is just slightly number than the other side, but I had my surgery in '91. No worries, but if the burning persists, perhaps your doctor can give you advice on a nerve specialist or something.

        Back pain

        Heidi:
I am seven months out and spent the biggest part of month six worried
about a burning sensation across my sacrum at L5 or Ll4. I had been over-
doing it outside. I immediately put on cold packs, took it easy and began
anti-inflamatory pills. Of course I was certain I had ruined my sacrum. Now,
almost a month later, I am better, the pain is gone. My point is, I, like you,
was coasting free and clear, getting better every hour. All of a sudden I
have new, aggravating pain which runs its course and then I am back on track
again. I was told by the surgeon I would have some interesting episodes with
pain in random parts of my back for at least two years. Of course, some have
been much more painful then others . At this point I can feel every piece of wire attached to every bone in my body. Its not actually painful, but the awareness is a bother. I feel like a trussed turkey. I believe this pain in your back will pass. Kathleen

Two years is what it took me. I remember still feeling some harware at over one year, so I wouldn't despair, it's normal. Swimming saved me.
