Hello, :)
I've suffered with back pain for a few years now but not long ago my mum noticed i had a bend in my spin, i went to the doctors but nothing got done about. Just resently i had to go to the hospital to get a chest Xray. The doctors noticed the bend again this time i got refered. They said my spin was 46degrees out. They are going to investigate it with more Xrays and ct scans, but he said that i will probably need surgery. Im so confused i dont know what to think, i feel so alone in all this. I feel like i left with nothing but questions swimming round in my head

Well thats my moan for today :)

Lifes hard but it makes it easier know that there are other people out there who are in the same boat as you
Thanks

Hiya :)

I was wondering if there is anything i have done thats made my back like this or if my life style has made it worse. Do you know if there is anything i can do to ease my back pain?

Have you had your surgery? how did you feel afterwards, how long do they say it takes on average to recover

Alexia, if i were you I would have a second opinion before going into surgery. It is a hard process and it takes time to recover, as well not a guarantee for everyone that you will be pain free after. Your curve is not that big, usually surgeries are recomended on over 50 degree curves OR if you really are in too much pain and it really affects your lifestyle. You can also see a PT specialist and go into alternative medicines such as chiro or acupuncture, massages, etc.

Good luck.

Hiya :)

To be honest i have heard bad things about ciro, but you are right about a secound opion. But as i have tried Massages before as the bend in my spin has caused all my muscles to be push slightly to one side i find that they dont really help, there great at the time but as soon as you leave its exactly the same. I was told that as its 46 degrees with a smaller bend at the bottom Kinda like a S, that it was quiet bad. Do you know if Acupuncture has been know to help?

I think it's incredibly unlikely that anything you could have done has caused or worsened your curvature. It's more likely to be a constitutional quirk, that just happened to you out of bad luck. When my scoliosis began in my teens I was convinced I must have done it somehow, and then when my daughter developed it one of her first questions to the doctor was 'Is it my fault?' By that time I'd found out much more about it and it just isn't something that you can make happen to your own spine. It's different if it's an apparent curvature caused by bad posture etc., but that is easily dealt with by exercise.

It's a hard thing to come to terms with, keep in touch with people who are doing the same. Good luck,

Lavinia

Alexia, I agree. I don't know of anything you can do to yourself to get that degree of curve. Just keep asking questions, read other posts here, find more information. The more you know the better you will feel. I also agree to get a second opinion. Take good care of yourself. Keep in touch. Linda :)

Hey Alexia

Yep, you did nothing to cause your scoliosis. I haven't had surgery so I can't answer any questions about that, but welcome. Another forum you can go to is www.spinekids.com (http://www.spinekids.com). it has lots of girls on there and a few guys and mums as well

Thanks for all ur notes they have made me feel alot better about whats going on, its nice to hear what other people think who are going through what i am. :)
Its still scary and it doesnt make the idea of surgery easier but it is good to know that your not alone
