Hello out there, I was diagnosed with scoliosis in 1984 at the age of 4 and in 1989 at the age of 9 I had the surger with the harrington rods and the posterior incision along the side of my rib cage. I'm 26 now, and acting and dancing is one of my hobbies. I found out that one of my costumes shows my back and I'm terrified that everyone is going to see my incisions and start asking questions. Since the scene is a short scene, I may just cover it with make-up. Another thought is just to flat out explain it to people to have them work with me. It's a community theatre production so it is in good fun and certainly not my career. I'm a male so I know that I am in the minority for this type of disease. Any advice for my dilemma? This could be helpful for any type of situation where you have to explain your scars. Terrified and looking for help...

Hi...
I think that our scars are not nearly as visible to others as we think they are.
The other night, I happened to be watching Two and a Half Men and saw an actress who was nude from the waist up from the back, and noticed that she had a light scar from about her mid-back to her waist. It would be interesting to know if anyone who isn't super-aware of such things, actually noticed the scar.
Regards,
Linda

I agree Linda, I myself notice when an actress or an everyday person has scoliosis as well but everybody around me is like "really? hadn't noticed it".

I agree with both of you. I think that those of us that have scoli and have been the surgery route notice people's backs  I swear I can see another scoli person from across the mall and other people's back scars yell at me when I walk by :p
I bet no one even notices your scar cgcannon
