  • Riding a bike with a brace.

My daughter is 13 and has a Boston brace. She says that when she lifts her legs the brace digs into her. How do you ride a bike that way?

    Any ideas?

Unsless the ortho can suggest cutting the hip part farther up, I guess she might have to ride the bike without the brace. The days she rides, use that time as her down-time, or the time she is allowed to go without her brace. Bummer, I know. My daughter had the same problem with riding a horse. Good luck!

Could the orthotist perhaps flay (bring the edge up slightly/......curve up the edge slightly) so it doesn't dig in so much, or could he perhaps trim it slightly. How does she go with sitting in a normal chair? (just curious)

Dear Alison, thanx for your reply. As for sitting in a normal chair, sitting in general seems to be more uncomfortable, but our daughter does better in a hard chair (like a folding chair) rather than a chair with a cushion like a sofa. Sitting in the car is also uncomfortable for this reason.
