My daughter is recently diagnosed and we haven't seen the specialist yet, but I was wondering if there is a possibility of her not having scoliosis sinceeverything I have seen in way of pictures always shows the curve to the right when looking at the back, and yet my daughter's curve is to the left when you look at her back.

Thanks
Julie

Julie,

How old is your daughter ? If she doesn't fall into the infantile group where the majority of curves are to the left then there is some cause for concern. I read somewhere that left sided curves in older children are associated with other issues and don't necessarily fall into the "idiopathic" category. Doctors will order an MRI to rule out other possible reasons ...I don't mean to worry you, your daughter may in fact have "idiopathic" scoliosis - I just don't want you to ignore it because it doesn't follow the normal pattern.

She is 6 years old, we also just got her bone age study results and she went from 3 years 6 months bone age last August, to 5 years 9 months this August, so I am happy about that.

Also I am not ignoring her possibility of having scoliosis, I am researching as much as I can and waiting patiently for our appt with the specialist on the 20th and also waiting for an appt from the Shriner's in Tampa. Thank you for your reply, if you have any other links I can read about scoliosis and such not, please send them my way.

Thanks Again.

Julie,

Given your daughter's age she may very well have infantile onset late resolving scoliosis or maybe the benign progressive variety or it could in fact be juvenile onset scoliosis with a left thoracic curve ???? Sorry if this is confusing....I'm sure you'll have a lot of answers after the first appointment (depending on your ortho's personality :p )
