I have heard of this but really know very little about it. As far as I understand, it cuts the risk of rejection as the coral is a completely inert substance by the time it's been treated and it can reduce surgery time as they don't have to harvest the bone for grafting.
I did ask for info about it on this site onse before but got no response so I think it must still be quite uncommon.
