Yeah, I know.. nothing is "normal"

My 16 year old told me she could actually hear my upper back "POP" when I walk.. It's been popping for the last few months.. With each step I take... just below the shoulder blades.. in the middle. My Harrington Rods are from the T7 down..

Soo.. the popping is below the top of the rod. Any thoughts?

I have little to no pain 'up' there.. ALL my pain.. (and a LOT of it!) is in my lower back.

Cindy...

I've heard others mention popping before, but I don't think it's normal. You should make an appointment to see a specialist, especially if you have pain.

Linda

Thanks Linda,

I am really interested in hearing from others that had such and audible 'POP'.. and what their causes turned out to be. Broken Rod? Loose hardware? Etc...

I know I need to see a specialist. I also know.. I can't afford it. One kid in college... another kid on her way to college, and no insurance. Pain is expensive. *sigh*

I heard a big pop when my rod broke, but ever since then it's more this gangling sound I hear and feel, like metal is touching itself, and that is the rod making that sound where there is breakage.

Thank you, sweetness514 and Patti for your replies!

I have no pain where my popping is occurring...(which, if I am mobile.. is ALL the time!) It's just loud and annoying, AND.. I can feel it! But, so far no pain there.

ALL my pain is really low in my back. Now the question is... Could a broken rod high up cause low back pain?

Hmmm, don't know but probably not that far down. I know that as a result of the broken rod I do feel the hardware making noise at other places, but that must be the fact that the breakage area is making all the rest(muscles, nerves) sensitive and all is connected. I hear more my bones(shoulders and arms) pop. I would get an X ray if I was you, to see if all is in place, and really check it thoroughly since my breakage did not really show a year ago when it happened.
