  • Hey everyone :-) newbie here...

    Hi ya..

I figured it's about time I do something about my scoliosis.. I've been paying more attention to my other health issues.

Anyway, I'm 24, was dx'ed with scoliosis at 12. The only number of degree I was told was 25 degrees..but don't know which curve that was.. I think I had a single curve back then. However, no one..not my GP (incompetent...*******), or the chiropractor a family friend who is a nurse (!!) recommended me to ever told me or my parents of options, refer me to an ortho..or tell me that I needed to be followed up every year.

I only found about the different treatment options when I was 16, through my own research, which is about the same time I found I had a neurological genetic disorder (a compelete texbook case.. yet, my GP missed it).

I stopped growing pretty early..so I didn't bother seeing an ortho when I found out -- Plus.. I didn't have health insurance growing up.

Although I don't know the degrees of my curves I do know that I have a triple curve, a mild cervical, severe throcolumbar and a moderate lumbar curve. I got a full-spine x-ray series before I finished college with the intension of getting copies of the films. That never happened..the office claimed they'd call me when it was ready..well, now that I'm 500 miles away..not so hot on the idea of trying to get those copies. I only have the x-ray report...

Now that I have a pretty good insurance plan I'm wondering if I should see a spinal specialists or not. Has anyone else been in similear situations a I am in? I'm in NY and work in NYC so I'd most likely see someone in the city so I have lots of doctors to choose from.

bah, I typed too much..hope I didn't put anyone to sleep!

I'm pretty new to this board also. Judging from some of the previous posts, i would check out hospital for special surgery if you are in NYC. I've only heard positive things about it.

    Good luck.
