I am new to this site adn I hope I can get some answers or at least be able to talk to people with the same problem.
I am 36 years old and was diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of 15. I was told it was a mild form and not to worry it wouldnt cause me any problems. I did have pain in my back off and on until I was about 23. I had been painfree until about 3 weeks ago. I started college again and Im a surgical tech. I am on my feet for 9 hours. The pain that I have is located in the upper right section of my back. That is also the section that is larger than the other half. I also have pain in my ribs. at times it feels like they are breaking. Other times, it just feels like a huge cramp. I have noticed a lunp on ribs. I began to notice that about 4 months agao. The only cure I have to relieve the pain is to lie down. I have noticed that wearing a bra seems to make the pain worse. That sounds funny doesnt it. i have also noticed that Im starting to have what feels like a pinched nerve in my neck that runs down my back. I usually have my scoliosis checked every 5 years to look for progression but it has been 10 years this time around. My biggest fear is that they will find that there is something more that is wrong with me than just my scoliosis. Im looking for answers and if anyone has experienced the same problems, i would love to hear from you. Nobody here seems to understand.

Hi Traci...

Talking to us isn't going to resolve your pain. :-) Get thyself to a scoliosis specialist.

Thanks Linda for your advice. I didnt want to talk to anyone here to relieve my pain. It was just nice to find a place where other people could relate to the problems that I was encountering. I was just courious to know if anyone else has experienced to the problems and was possibly looking to see what was done to help them. I am trying to see a specialist but with no insurance and 4 kids coming up with the money is tough.

I'm really sorry to hear that. If there's ANY possible way for you to get health insurance, I would encourage you to find it. If your pain has already been around for a long time, it probably won't go away by itself.

In the meantime, you might want to try yoga. You can find information on the subject here:

thanks Linda for the information. People always told me that yoga didnt help scoliosis, but I like what this web site has to offer. I had another break through today. A doctor is willing to see me and work payments out with me. Im so excited. Most doctors around here want money upfront. This doctor is a real blessing :)

I am also new to this list. I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was 12, and wore a Milwaukee brace for 4 years. I am now 36 years old, and I get all kinds of new sensations as I age. I also get the pain in my upper back, on the side with the curve, I get tingling, and numbness, cramps up and down my spine, all kinds of stuff. Things I do to stay comfortable are: Daily stretches, strenthening of my core muscles (stomach and lower back). I got the exercise program from a physical therapist. They will work with you and prescribe exercises that are best for your particular situation. I also do yoga from time to time. I need to be more consistant with the yoga. It really helps. I feel at my worst then I slack off on my daily physical therapy. If I skip too many days, I hurt. Also, I get massages every 6 weeks from a certified massage therapist. Sounds like you are on your way to feeling better since you found a doctor. Also, a physical therapist will only need to see you twice. Once to evaluate you and show you what to do, and a second time to see how the exercises are working out for you. If you can afford a few sessions, I'm sure that will help you. Your doctor should be able to refer you to a therapist near you. For me personally-- stretching, strenthening my muscles and massage is what helps me deal. Good luck! :)
