  • 3.5 year update T4-L1

Hello fellow Scoli- Just wanted to give an update on how my back is doing 3.5 years later.... It was PERFECT for about 2.5 years ( i was still leaning, but pain wise it was perfect) i was working out daily, and stretching daily..... then I had a baby and wasn't able to workout at all while pregnant, (My back felt great while pregnant, I had hyperemisis gravidarum and that was why i wasnt' able to continue my fitness) and lost all my muscle tone. now My littlel boy is 8months old, and somewhere along lifting his heavy booty up and down and chasing after him, I've slipped L5. I'm in excruciating pain barely able to sit.... so i'm looking to get back to Physical Therapy... But I know what i need to do to get better. lots of walking, stretching, lifting (properly) and strengthening. Having a baby makes me even more motivated to make sure I can be healthy for him as long as possible.
So all in all, i wouldnt' change my surgery at all. Rib hump totally gone. thoracic corrected to about 10 degrees still residual curve in lumbar spine with rotation, but by only fusing to L1 I have maintained amazing flexibility.
I'm sure I"ll have future surgeries... but for now... all is well...FullSizeRender.jpg

Wow King14! So happy you checked in! I mention you from time to time. You are very special. :-)

Congratulations on your little boy! That's so wonderful.

I am sorry to hear about your L5 disc. I hope the PT will get you past that.

Thanks again for checking in with the group. :-)

They have a tendency to do that. (Huge smiley face)

King, Its been awhile......glad to see you posting, but not with this “slippage” thing happening......I hate “slippage”. (smiley face)

Did you have an MRI done on it? Did you visit your surgeon?

Yes I have had the MRI, I have not been back to my surgeon in about a year and a half.. If any further SERIOUS steps need to be taken after PT then I'll go back to my surgeon, but I moved to Atlanta from LA for my job...So I haven't been back in a while... Letting someone new handle your case is always a bit nerve wrecking, so as long as it's just PT... I'll stay in Atlanta for it

So glad to hear from u again

            I see, you’re a southern girl now....

If it’s a herniation, go slow.....In my case, it was hot tubs, NSAID’s, rest, and slow walking.....L4-L5 or L5-S1 ?

I can understand the hesitation of a new doc.......and easier since it is a non-surgical thing. But, good surgeons know which meds to use.....It might not be a bad idea to e-mail your stuff back to your LA surgeon.....for the record, and advice. X-Rays and MRI’s. Digital copies make this stuff so much easier these days.

It’s a lot of work chasing after the kids.....and the lifting has to be done with care, for sure. I like an office chair with wheels since it limits the bending, and bending and lifting is the problem.

One hour with a 10 month old, and Uncle Ed is shot. (smiley face)

            Glad you are posting.....

Back in the old days it was Biofreeze...... This stuff was proven, and you could even go bowling after an application!

“Gee Honey, what is that aftershave you are wearing?”

                  “Biofreeze and Beer” (smiley face)
