but i found it interesting...

Tiger Woods had to withdraw from golf tournament...
he had a discectomy kind of surgical operation some 11 weeks
ago or so...
the media is saying he went back to playing golf WAY too soon...
and is now paying for it...
he said he pulled a muscle and was in too much pain to finish
playing...
the columnist said Woods' golf game has been all over the place
since he came back from surgery too quickly.

guess i found it interesting that an athlete who is in good physical
condition could injure himself due to returning to activity too soon...

then again...it could just have been KARMA...

she does not have scoliosis, but Liza Minnelli is having her lower
spine fused...
i learned with Lyme that if a celebrity has an illness or condition, it
brings attention to the illness or condition...
attention can bring publicity and sometimes help raise awareness,
sometimes help raise money...

remains to be seen if her fusion gets much press...

there is a series on public TV called "Secrets of the Dead"

on Wednesday, Sept 24th, an episode called "Resurrecting
Richard III" will be broadcast, about King Richard III of England....
his bones were discovered in 2012 underneath a parking
lot in Leicester, England....

the summary about the program, which is not a repeat but a
new episode, mentions one of the topics will be "whether the
curvature of his spine would have hindered him in battle"

again i mention this because i have found that public attention is
drawn to any condition or illness when a famous person either
announces they have the condition, or it is discovered after that
person has passed away.

I have that knowing smile on my face as I read this....and it is nice to be in good physical shape before going in, but when it comes to recovery, we do not have full control of the situation even on something like a single level microdiscectomy. This is just a little trim job, (no fusion) and yes it can affect the precision and balance required to play golf on a Tiger Woods level. For a “perfect” golf game, the body and mind has to be “perfect”. There is going to be sacrifice when we age, or have any sort of surgical procedure.

If a classical pianist has a hand operation, the music will be affected. That’s a sure bet......... Unlike the massive Alibaba IPO....(smiley face) That a huge herd of bulls RUNNING with their checkbooks.....Shall I say “Moooooo.......”

When we are young we train hard at doing things, its all about our goal setting, our dreams. When we age, we have to train hard at learning to accept the fact that we cannot achieve perfection anymore. It’s a hard thing this adjustment, especially for sports minded people. I wish I could ski like I did when I was 25, it was insane what I could actually do to my body on a physical level. Its been hard to mentally accept this as I aged, and scoliosis surgery was sort of like the 4th flat tire on the car, but who needs tires when you can still drive on the rims?

Tiger is experiencing the ageing process along with the mental changes that go with it. Trying to maintain perfection on his level will be hard and this struggle will show. Its going to be a sad thing to see such a monster of a golfer go through this.

It will.....in time.

It’s a hard thing to be really good at something and then lose it due to something you cant control. We cant control our spinal degeneration or ageing process, we can only try to make the best of what we have at any given moment.

Surgery is a way of helping, its sometimes our only choice. Tiger is approaching 39 now, and it was when I was around 40 when my major pain events started happening, and I did keep skiing hard at that age regardless and had the resulting pain force the change in my life. Pain is a game changer for sure.

Golf is also very hard on the back....Go to the driving range and drive 100 balls with scoliosis and see what happens. Oh man!

Some people like to go out when they are on top of their game......but I think Tiger will keep going regardless of the pain.....

i do not know about that, Ed...whether Tiger Woods will
keep playing golf with the pain...
he seems to be a person who cannot handle not being number
one....he was so used to being on top for such a long time, after all...
it could be that, if he is coming in with really bad scores over
and over again, he might choose to stop.

i wonder what will feel worse to him...
the physical pain from his spine...
or the emotional/psychological pain of simply being human...a mere
mortal....???????
