    In the wait for surgery, I have developed a rib hump.

    What causes this condition and how can it be corrected?

    Rib hump is caused by vertebral rotation in thoracic spine. It can be corrected(mostly) with surgery.

      The ribs are attached to the thoracic spine and as the spine rotates (a usual part of scoliosis), the ribs rotate as well. And, because there isn't adequate space for the ribs to rotate, they become deformed. There are dozens of web pages that explain the process. For example:
