People with low bone mass or osteoporosis are already at higher risk for spinal fractures. Steroids probably add more insult to the situation, or the fracture was probably going to happen anyway.

For some reason, I thought that this information was already well known. On the flip side, I was told by an anesthesiologist that for disc related pain the reduction in inflammation can sometimes give the disc a chance to heal and no repeat injections may be needed. I'm assuming he was talking about the younger crowd, as I was in my 30's at the time.
