I felt I had to visit this site and post this thread to thank everybody who writes messages here. This is a fantastic site for people struggling to come to terms with this condition.
All messages have been a constant source of comfort and full of information for me over the last few months while we have been awaiting surgery following 18 months of unsucessful bracing (it worked to a degree but not sufficiently to avoid surgery).
I have cried at some posts and smiled at others. The main message I get is that the children do come out the other side better for surgery - thank goodness. They are all so brave. Mumof5 and her daughter have been especially supportive to us and I thank them for that.
My 12 yr old daughter Gemma has posted here occasionally and I know shes benefited. When she is feeling better and back home from hospital following surgery I am sure she will post her thoughts and update you all.
She is being admitted to hospital tomorrow Mon 24th for tests and then on Wed her scoliosis surgery takes place.

Thanks again everyone for your help.

Hi Suzanne,
Just adding my little bit of support as well. Gemma will be fine, she's a tough girl. Good Luck anyway.

Best wishes also to Keri.

I hope both surgeries go well and you are both back home quickly.

Cheryl.

The first week is the hardest, you see you child in pain and discomfort and there isn't anything you can do! My parents stayed with me the entire time I was in the hospital. Here's a tip just in case....I had so many tubes in my body that my veins gave up and kept colapsing. They ended up putting my morphine drip in my foot which is very painful. Because the vien it was in was so small, it burned when I'd hit the button to medicate. Here's what we learned in case your daughter has the same thing....when she's getting ready to medicate, put a cold washcloth over the area the needle is in and massage lightly, this disperses the medicine quicker and makes it burn less.

Good luck! my thoughts are with you!
