I have had symptoms of UTI for a couple of days and yesterday went to a walk in clinic as the burning had increased. I am now taking an antibiotic- Bactrim DS and Peridium (for burning). But since I take Painkillers
everyday now due to the Sciatic pain I'm afraid I might have had this longer than just a couple of days and not noticed the symptoms due to the painkillers. I am 5 months post-op. Is this something that is serious enough to notify the surgeon's office ? I have read on the forum that there is a chance of it spreading to the hardware. How would you know or what are the symptoms of hardware infection?

Hi Pam,

I would call just in case, but it's my understanding that UTIs are pretty common after this surgery. My guess is if you're feeling better in a few days everything is fine. Do you have a fever?

Hi Evelyn,

I don't have a fever, but don't feel 100%. Still have some burning today. I just haven't had a UTI in years, so unusual for me.

Thanks,
Pam

Am I remembering correctly from my days as a mother of babies, that white spots on the tonsils means thrush? My youngest is nearly 30 so I could be wrong.

Pam

I would see a doctor immediately.....it could be strep.

They will give you antibiotics.

Pam,
Has the infection cleared up?

Hope so! You (and others with lingering pain and issues) are always in my thoughts.

Hi Kathy,

Yes it has cleared up, or at least the symptoms. Will have it re-tested next week. If I could only get rid of this severe pain. Thank you for your thoughts.

Hi Pam -- I remember you responded to my post a few months back. I too have some leg pain (surgeon said "sciatica-like") after the BMP surgery in the L4-5, L5-S1 levels back in April. I have kept it manageable with 1 Gabapentin (100 mg.) every 18 hours, trying to stretch it to 1 pill a day. But when I do increase the interval, I notice some left ankle sensations, so I am afraid to stretch it to 1 a day yet, as I think the effects of this pill are cumulative and I don't want the pain to come back full-force. How are you doing with that?

Pam, i am so sorry that you are in such pain...
i hope you can get some relief...
you mentioned pain meds.....are they not working on the pain, or just
taking the edge off and not really relieving the pain...???

I think if you had the UTI and it went treated long enough, you'd probably see blood in your urine. I had a uti right after my surgery, and then again last month, almost 4 years later. Goodness it's an awful pain. I used to get them when I was younger.
