Hey everyone. First time posting here. I'm having kyphosis surgery on Tuesday. Have a 79degree curve. I wanted to know if anyone also has a barrel chest and will it help it go away or make it look worse?

I'm very stressed about this.

Any info would be appreciated.

Welcome,
That would be a good question for your doctor. Best wishes for a good outcome on your surgery!

Really? Did you just feel compelled to write something?

I haven't had surgery. But if you prefer me not to comment on your thread, that is okay. Most people like to be welcomed. I've not heard of anyone with the barrel chest, not saying they're not on here, but haven't seen any. If I had, I would have referred you to them. Otherwise, it was meant in all kindness. Sorry if my comment offended you. I usually do welcome new members whatever their situation is. So, yes, I felt compelled to comment. I wanted you to feel welcome and yet I don't have the answer to your question. Maybe ask Linda Racine. She works with a bunch of spine specialists. Sorry.

Thanks for the words of welcome to the new member, rohrer01. That is exactly why most of us feel so understood and welcome here, and love the support system.

Uesnyc, welcome to the forum. Please be aware that this is a gentle place where people are kind to one another, which is one of the best things about it. rohrer01 was being kind, please be kind to her in return.

I don't mind bumping your thread even though I do not have your answer, because I have noticeable rib cage deformity in the front and have never seen anyone report whether there is improvement in appearance in the chest as well as the back. Anyone?

I would also like to know about the rib cage deformity in the front. I have it quite bad, as well. Thank you Mojo's Mom, Jeneemohler, & Golfnut.

Hey, no hard feelings here, I know you are under some extreme anxiety. I hope no hard feelings on your part either. I know you are having your surgery tomorrow, so I just wanted to say I hope things go well. Anxiety is a terrible thing. We will all want to know of your outcome with your chest deformity if you are willing to share it. Although not many posters say anything about the barrel chest, many of us do have chest deformities, including me. So this would be helpful to those of us that haven't had surgery, yet. Again, wishing you a successful surgery and a speedy recovery!
