Exactly one year ago now... I was still in the OR for my first anterior surgery. Today is a very special and emotional day for me... I feel great with some pains and aches sometimes, but in general, I cannot complain. My back, cosmetically, is still not perfect. I still have a small rib hump but nothing compared to what I had before. I can wear cute dresses and clothing that had never fitted me propertly before. I have a bit of a belly from the lordosis created by surgeon, but again that is a small price to pay for having a healthier back. I am becoming more flexible with time and I can finally start excersicing on my own. Although, I have not seen my Doctor yet for my year appointment, I know he will give me the green light to start physical activity. I am thankfull for your support throughout those first 3 month that really were crucial for me. If any of you need information or have questions, please, do not hesitate to ask. Surgery was the right decision for me because I did have a 98 degree curvature. I defenitely don't regret my decision!
I read in another post about popping and cracking sounds... yes, I do have them as well, but I don't feel its harmfull.
cheers,
Pilar

Congratulations Pilar. I haven't posted much on the forum but I definitely followed your posts before and after your surgery cos you had some large curves like me. It must feel good to be one year out.

I do have some questions and concerns that I think you might be able to relate with given the size of our curves pre op. I sent you a PM a few weeks ago. Please read and let me know your thoughts.

Thanks and look forward to hearing back.

Congrats Pilar. It's especially good to hear how well you're doing, after such a rocky early recovery.

I had a costoplasty (thoraplasty) too and I can honestly say its the best thing I ever did!
To not have that hump getting in the way of sitting anymore feels wonderful and being able to wear what I want after years of covering up feels amazing everyday:-)

Its great your doing so well-long may it continue.X

Congratulations Pilar,

I looked at your xrays. Wow, you were more curved than me and your surgeon got you straighter than mine did--but I guess some of my bones were already fused. I have the same output as you: I still have a bit of a rib hump and my stomach kind of sticks out more now.

Thanks for the update--I am a little over three months post surgery--and am looking forward to the six month mark. Everyone says that's a big milestone.

Thanks for sharing and best of luck as you start exercising.
