I can't believe it but I have now joined the "One Year Anniversary Club" and it feels great! Actually my one year anniversary was 2 days ago but I didn't get a chance to post on that day.
I feel pretty darn good considering. My stamina is still not where it should be. I am still relatively stiff and I'm sure that will slowly improve. Parts of my back are still numb though that doesn't really bother me. I am still recovering from my frozen shoulder which will soon be a memory. (I will post my pre and postop photos as soon as I figure out how to do it!)
I was reflecting about my hospitalization this past weekend and although much of it I do not remember, there is a lot that I do remember. I went through heck (1 week hospitalization turned into 3 weeks due to postop complications...uggh). It was not an awful experience because the nurses and physicians at UC Davis were amazing, but it is not something that I care to repeat! But it's all over with...done. I don't dwell on it much. Like my doctor reminded me at one of my postop visits, I no longer have scoliosis!
My posture has improved, my presurgical thoracic pain is gone, my back is almost perfectly flat (like many of us, I had quite a disfiguring hump), and a nice perk is that I've managed to keep off 20 pounds postop. I no longer have to watch my thoracic curve continue on its curvy path. And discovered just prior to my surgery, worry how bad my lumbar curve was going to get. It's time now to focus more of my time on other things other than my back.
I am so glad that I had this surgery when I did. To those who are still contemplating it, you will know when the time is right. Make sure to have a specialist do this surgery, that you trust him/her, and ask him a ton of questions!
